Ah, Thanksgivukkah, that wonderful and once in a lifetime convergence of two holidays of joy and renewal, Thanksgiving and Chanukah. The phenomenon has already spawned a number of fattening foodie fusions and Menorah/poultry mashups. But in all of this celebration of togetherness and fellowship, we’ve forgotten to ask the question which most greatly affects our shared cultural heritage: which one is the better holiday? Lets get to the nitty gritty.
Every couple of years, as we gather around to celebrate the festival of lights, some brave soul has to step up and let us know that he or she is not comfortable with Hanukkah because, after all, it’s just the celebration of fanatical zealots over their progressive countrymen. But this particular view of the Hanukkah story is vastly oversimplified. And now I’m gonna Zealously defend Zealousness.
